Peace Conference Passes Resolution to Support Bradley Manning and Wikileaks

RESOLUTION to National Peace Conference July 2010: We SUPPORT BRADLEY MANNING & WikiLeaks for Leaking the Story of US War Crimes in Iraq

Bradley Manning, a member of the U.S. Army, is held in a US military prison in Kuwait. The military has charged him with two violations for releasing classified information (the Wikileaks "Collateral Murder" video) which showed the U.S. Army killing 12 Iraqi civilians in July 2007; Manning faces 54 years in prison and is being held in isolation from the outside world, and it is not clear if he has contact with his civilian attorneys working to defend him.

If the allegations are true, we believe that Bradley Manning is a hero for bringing to light the realities of the crimes being committed in the U.S. occupation. We call for his immediate release and for his attorneys to be allowed to talk to him.

The soldiers and officers, not to mention the commanders responsible for the July 2007 killing of civilians face no investigation, much less punishment of any kind.

Mexico Bleeds: Free Media Against the Invisible Tyranny

Ké Huelga Radio writes: Mexico is bleeding. Along with the so-called "war against drug-dealers" we see the whole Mexican territory turn olive green. The militarization is part of the global war driven by the United States, which began with the 9-11 events and created new enemies: terrorism and drug trafficking. Attuned with the Lords of the north, the Mexican government has launched its own war creating a police-ruled state and criminalizing social protest.

Pentagon Changed Military Commissions Rules To Legitimize Drone Program

June 2, 2010 In a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed today, the American Civil Liberties Union asked the government to disclose the legal basis for its use of predator drones to conduct "targeted killings" overseas. In particular, the ACLU seeks to find out when, where and against whom drone strikes can be authorized, and how the United States ensures compliance with international laws relating to extrajudicial killings. "Changing the rules in order to accommodate CIA drone strikes underscores the flaws in the entire 'global war on terror' paradigm. The entire world is not a battlefield. The government cannot use quintessentially warlike measures – deploying missiles and other offensive force – anywhere in the world that it believes a suspected terrorist might be located." - Jonathan Manes, Legal Fellow in the ACLU National Security Projec

Cooper Union Student Shot in Face and Loses Eye in Demonstration in Israel

31 May 2010: An American solidarity activist was shot in the face with a tear gas canister during a demonstration in Qalandiya, today. Emily Henochowicz is currently in Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem undergoing surgery to remove her left eye, following the demonstration that was held in protest to Israel’s murder of at least 10 civilians aboard the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in international waters this morning.

21-year old Emily Henochowicz was hit in the face with a tear gas projectile fired directly at her by an Israeli soldier during the demonstration at Qalandiya checkpoint today. Israeli occupation forces fired volleys of tear gas at unarmed Palestinian and international protesters, causing mass panic amongst the demonstrators and those queuing at the largest checkpoint separating the West Bank and Israel.

Vets for Peace #156 in Boatnik Parade 2010

Grants Pass, Oregon - Memorial Day, 2010

Congratulations, Hal, Jim, Loree and all who worked so hard to put together our Veterans for Peace, Rogue Valley Chapter 156, entry in today's massive Boatnik parade in Grants Pass. The huge Peace Dove with the olive branch in her beak was gorgeous and impressive. It's difficult to believe how big this parade is -- our group was lucky to go down the street early and by the time we walked back to where we started, more than an hour later, there were still many groups waiting to start their journey.

Attached are a few photos that I snapped along the way (click on any to make larger)
