Al Giordano, founder–editor of Narco News and co-founder of the Fund for Authentic Journalism, gave a talk and presented some of his latest videos at the so called “church space” of St Johns at 2640 St Paul Street in Charles Village, Baltimore. Group discussion followed his presentation. Eleven persons attended the event, and discussion was easy, the audience sitting in a semicircle.

A Rebel's Dream - Zapatista Coffee Project at Seward Cafe April 9

This project began here in Minnesota as a modest effort to support Zapatista communities by selling what they produce. Years later a larger-scale project has emerged across the United States and is designed to fully fund the autonomous education system of the Zapatista Municipality in Rebellion Ricardo Flores Magon as well as their medical clinics and anything else that they deem critical to creating and maintaining their autonomy.

A Review of John Ross' Zapatistas

John Ross is a Latin American correspondent and activist who's been living in and writing about Mexico for nearly four decades turning out some of the most important and incisive analysis of events there of anyone covering the country, its history, politics and people. Few writers anywhere make the country come alive like he can. He lives among the people and knows them well including Zapatista leader Subcommandante Marcos who may have given Ross his first ever interview.

New Mexico activists set up camp in solidarity with the indigenous Cucapah of Baja

A group of Albuquerque activists have set up camp in the Mexicali region of Baja, Mexico prior to the arrival of La Otra Campana. La Otra plans to arrive in support of the Cucapah and their fight to regain fishing rights taken by the government. Because of increasing pressure by the paramilitary in Chiapas, La Otra has been delayed but will arrive in Baja, as was announced by Delegate Zero in October of 2006.

The camp is going as scheduled and the people are currently fishing. Albeit under the increasing harassment by local police. Activist from Albuquerque who brought down to Baja two converted school buses for the encampment were woken up at 3 am a few days ago and harassed by the police, as reported by a New Mexico Indymedia reporter on the ground with the encampment.

Zaptista Other Campaign Meets With the Peoples of the Border

"What we are trying to plant here is that we have to unite as indigenous peoples. The earth dies the same in O'odham territory, Navajo, Cherokee, Tzeltal, Tzotzil, Purepecha, Nahuatl, and we must unite - not only in Mexico, but with the entire continent.

Those that are already high up, "up above," have already demonstrated throughout the centuries that the only thing they are capable of is destroying the earth. No more -- that's enough! Now we are going to take the destiny of the earth and its defense into our hands. We won't leave it another minute in the hands of the rich.

We, who have the color of the earth - and who have hearts of corn regardless of the color of our skin - we have to do it, because if we don't the world will disappear."

La Otra Campaña Tijuana: Revolution on Our Doorstep

EZLN Subcomandante Marcos came to Tijuana, last Wednesday and Thursday, October 18th and 19th, within the shadow of our wall of shame, to bring Zapatismo to Mexico’s fourth largest city through the “La Otra Campaña” tour. A series of forums held over the last year in 31 Mexican states which says that there is a better way to do politics than stolen elections, bribed congress persons, corrupt, violent governors, and corporate thievery. Politics from the bottom up, not top down; where all the stakeholders in civil society; workers, peasants, students, women, gays, indigenous groups have the power to control the economic, social and political processes that influence their lives.

Here, amid the ruins of the former world of the Tijuana rich, young people commit themselves to authentic lives and autonomous communities free of greed. They do not fear the loss of material comforts or jail. A new culture of resistance begins to take shape as Mexico rediscovers its continuing revolution. There is, indeed, hope.
