Protests in DC And Bay Area Demand Impeachment

On July 23rd, Cindy Sheehan's deadline for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to introduce articles of impeachment against George Bush and Dick Cheney ran out. Hundreds of supporters gathered there and marched on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, ending in a siege of Rep. John Conyers's office and several arrests. In solidarity, several people gathered in Mike Honda's Campbell, CA office. A similar action happened later in the day at the office of Zoe Lofgren in San Jose.

Cindy Sheehan led 2-300 impeachment activists on a march from Arlington Cemetary to the Congressional office of Rep. John Conyers, whose job as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee puts him in charge of impeachment.

Congressman McGovern Believes Focusing on Cheney Impeachment Wrong

Congressman James McGovern responded today to constituents' calls he support Rep. Dennis Kucinich's H.Res. 333 to impeach Vice President Cheney.

Although extremely critical, stating "Vice President Richard B. Cheney has not brought honor to his office . . . . His most recent pronouncement that the Vice Presidency somehow lies outside the Executive Branch is among his most ludicrous and delusional.", McGovern believes "focusing" on impeachment is the wrong priority.

Thousands call for impeachment in K'port

Last Sunday, two thousand people came out to protest at the meeting of President Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin, two imperialists ready to get their lounge on in the upper-class vacationland of Kennebunkport, Maine. The diverse group of protestors including antiwar activists, veterans, lawyers, revolutionary communists, civil libertarians, anarchists, labor leaders, women's groups, and one marching band.

The purpose for most was to call for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney. Signs read, "Impeachment is the path to peace," and "Democracy breached, time to impeach." Not everyone, of course, felt impeachment was the most important goal. "The priority is getting out of Iraq, not impeachment. We can get them for war crimes later," said Judy, a Maine resident. McDermott signs onto Impeach Cheney bill

Representative Jim McDermott has broken ranks and has signed onto House Resolution 333, calling for impeachment of Cheney. Call to thank him for standing up for the Constitution: 1-800-614-2803.

McDermott is the first US Representative from the North West to break from Pelosi and sign onto the Impeach Cheney bill, House Resolution 333.

Hubbardston Annual Town Meeting to Vote on Impeachment

Hubbardston is now joining sixteen other towns in Massachusetts Congressional District 1 which have had the article of impeachment introduced at town meetings this year.

The town of Hubbardston will have an article of impeachment on the warrant at the annual town meeting which will be held on June 19 at Hubbardston Center School. A special town meeting will be held at 7:00 PM. The annual town meeting is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

Olympia City Council Says No to Impeachment

The Olympia City Council's General Government Committee voted 2-1 to not endorse the resolution calling on Congress to begin an impeachment investigation of Bush and Cheney. Jeff Kingsbury and Joe Hyer voted against the resolution, while T.J. Johnson voted in support. Prior to that meeting, Joe Hyer sent out an email to City Council members with his concerns, taken straight from the Pelosi script. Here is his memo with my responses.

All over the US, people held gatherings demanding that Bush be impeached. One was held in DC at the base of the Washington Monument, where several hundred people sat down in positions spelling the word "Impeach!" (Audio: 3 min 24 seconds)
