INVETERATE RELIGIOUS NUTCAKE PROFESSES NONVIOLENCE WHILE ISSUING COY, THINLY-VEILED THREATS AGAINST DOCTORS, DEMOCRATS, PRO-CHOICE MOVEMENT

After a momentous comeback show at the Supreme Court, Randall Terry And His Fabulous Fail Train staged an encore performance at the National Press Club.
While claiming to draw inspiration from Martin Luther King, he simultaneously issued dire warnings of "convulsions" and attempted to draw parallels between fetuses and Holocaust Jews, while also taking a moment to mock his fellow Catholics. "False Reporting" Law Entraps Woman; Rapist Officers Barnes, Gillies Go Free

Minneapolis/St. Paul24 Jul 2009

What if you were raped and no one believed you?  Now--what if you were raped by the police?  What if their superiors failed to investigate the crime?  What if instead of punishing the rapists, they charged you with the crime of lying about police "misconduct"?

This is what happened to Camille Williams, a black Twin Cities woman.**  Raped by Minneapolis Police Officers Paul Gillies and Miquel Barnes almost two years ago, Williams was subsequently charged with the crime of falsely reporting police misconduct--a charge levied so that, audio recordings tell, the MPD could avoid a civil lawsuit.  After a two and a half week trial, Williams was found guilty by a 6-person Hennepin County jury on Monday, despite allegations of jury misconduct (including one juror sleeping during the trial).  On Tuesday, when Williams was scheduled to be sentenced, the defense successfully argued for a postponement until August 14 based on several pending motions aimed at overturning the decision.

"I didn't lie about a damn thing and here I am, accused of a crime!" Williams says.  Gillies and Barnes, meanwhile, continue to walk the beat.

**Although the rape survivor's name has been reported by corporate media outlets, we are changing it here, even though the callous disregard for survivors of sexual assault (whether proven in the courts of the perpetrator or not) by uncritical pro-police media has already resulted in harm.  Also: Note that the article below may trigger strong and difficult emotions/memories, especially for survivors and others affected by sexual assault and police brutality.

Beyond Attica: The Untold Story of Women's Resistance Behind Bars

Philadelphia23 Jul 2009
The central thesis of Resistance Behind Bars is truly profound. In clear, non-academic language, Law argues that recent scholarship documenting and radically criticizing the increased incarceration rates and mistreatment of women prisoners "largely ignores what the women themselves do to change or protest these circumstances, thus reinforcing the belief that incarcerated women do not organize." Alongside academia, Law also harshly criticizes radical prison activists, arguing that "just as the civil rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s downplayed the role of women in favor of highlighting male spokesmen and leaders, the prisoners' rights movement has focused and continues to focus on men to speak for the masses." Anti-abortion Terrorism Can Be Prevented

Philadelphia21 Jun 2009
I hope that Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey will make our city the gold standard when it comes to enforcing the FACE Act. They should both read these words that President Bill Clinton spoke when he signed the FACE Act into law in 1994:

“No person seeking medical care, no physician providing that care should have to endure harassments or threats or obstruction or intimidation or even murder from vigilantes who take the law into their own hands because they think they know what the law ought to be.”

WAMM Walk Against Weapons Goes On Despite the Rain

Minneapolis/St. Paul16 Jun 2009
90 people walked raising awareness "drop by drop"

June 10, 2009 — The rains came... and so did the walkers! After gathering in the parking lot at Bakers Square and registering, we had a short rally and about ninety walkers set off on the three miles to Alliant Techsystems. The rain was relatively heavy, but our spirits were high and we received many friendly honks and waves. We had a big WAMM Walk Against Weapons sign leading and many individuals wore Walk Against Weapons signs on their backs or around their necks; it was quite an impressive sight... in the rain.

Woman Against Military Madness and AlliantACTION organized the fundraising walk for WAMM from Bakers Square, around the Eden Prairie Shopping Center, to ATK's corporate headquarters. Thousands of suburbanites witnessed this year's WALK AGAINST WEAPONS. Read More & Photos | WAMM Online

Dr. Tiller Memorial at Federal Courthouse in Urbana

Urbana-Champaign07 Jun 2009
On Saturday, June 6 at 10 a.m., a memorial was held at the federal courthouse in Urbana to correspond with the funeral of Dr. George Tiller in Wichita, Kansas and similar memorials that were held across the country. On Memorial Day, Tiller was gunned down at his church by an anti-abortion activist in what many are calling a vicious act of domestic terrorism. In Urbana, a group of approximately 25 people gathered to honor Tiller and take a stand for women’s reproductive rights.

Growing up in Wichita, I remember the summer of 1991 when Operation Rescue kicked off its so-called “Summer of Mercy” by protesting Dr. Tilller’s clinic. Tiller had become a lightning rod for the movement for his providing of late-term abortions. At the church where my now wife (who was then and remains pro-choice) was attending, youth were being recruited to lie down in the road and block traffic along Kellogg Avenue. Read More

Right Wing Terror Strikes Down Health Provider: Dr. George Tiller

DC01 Jun 2009
A quote from terror: “A great day for the unborn children scheduled to be murdered by Babykilling Abortionist George Tiller. George Tiller reaped what he sowed and now has been cast alive into everlasting torment and fire for the innocent blood he has shed. Metro Swathed In Anti-Abortion Shame

DC19 May 2009
Yesterday, I hopped on a 90 Metrobus in the hopes of escaping the downpour. Little did I know that the unsuspecting bus I was boarding was actually an anti-abortion vehicle of shame!

The bus was wallpapered, front to back, on both sides, with this “FREE Abortion Alternatives” Ad, pictured. The ad, for a local crisis pregnancy center, offers free pregnancy tests, counseling, and “services” to pregnant women at four D.C.-area locations.

"ICE, ICE, Get out of the way, Happy Mothers Day!" -- Protesters Demanded an End to the Raids, Detentions and Deportations

Boston14 May 2009
Boston, May 10, 2009.- Nearly 60 people demonstrated around the Suffolk County Jail in Boston (known as South Bay House of Corrections) in protest for the detention of immigrants in that facility. The signs and the chants indicated what the protesters wanted: an end to the represion of immigrant workers and their families, legalization, family reunification. All this in the context of the commercial celebration of Mother's Day. The prisoners were fully aware of the presence of the demonstrators and banged their cell windows furiously.
